GILBERT, AZ — Hosting a group of kids in your home can be a hassle, from worrying about potential messes to having enough activities to keep them occupied. A Gilbert couple is rolling out a new business in the Valley, called The Slumber Shack, to offer kids an “epic” party and parents some peace of mind.

Amanda Armbrust said she came up with the idea after hosting a ninth birthday party for her daughter.

“We couldn’t find a place to put all the kids,” she said. “We wanted somewhere they could all hang out — they could, kind of, have their own space.”

She and her husband purchased a trailer, painted it bright blue and redesigned the inside to be geared for both boys and girls. The trailer can accommodate 10 people, has a TV with a hookup for a game system, a surround sound stereo and even a disco ball. Add-ons, including an arts-and-crafts activity table and fire pit with a s'mores kit, can be purchased with the rental. For every event, the Armbrusts set up the trailer, teach the occupants how to operate the amenities and then roll it away when the party’s over.

Amanda said after several rentals, adults started inquiring about using it, too. In addition to setting up the trailer for several adult “glamping” trips at Lake Pleasant, the Armbrusts said they discovered a market for newlyweds.

“Brides asked us, can we use this at our wedding reception to throw the kids in there?” Amanda said.

The couple is currently building a second trailer specifically for adults. Rentals are approximately $300 a night, depending on the setup.
