Man dead after being hit by train in Gilbert near Baseline/McQueen

A man is dead after he was struck by a train in Gilbert late Wednesday night.

Authorities were called to the area of McQueen and Baseline roads around 10:30 p.m. after receiving reports of an accident. 

A police spokesperson says a 56-year-old man was lying across the train tracks when he was struck by the train just east of McQueen Road. 

Roads in the area were closed for several hours but have since reopened. 

The man who was killed was the only person injured, officials confirmed. No structures were damaged during the crash and railway safety measures were functioning properly. 

An investigation is ongoing at this time and the victim's name is being withheld.
