MESA, AZ — A widespread outage hit the East Valley Thursday evening, leaving thousands of homes without power.
According to SRP, more than 35,000 homes in the Mesa, Gilbert, and Tempe area lost power for about an hour Thursday.
Extreme heat has previously been to blame for similar issues in the past. Thursday’s high temperature was 99 degrees at Sky Harbor Airport. It's unclear if the heat played a factor in the outage.
SRP said Thursday night that an "electrical system disturbance" was to blame for the sizable outage.
We are currently experiencing power outages in the East Valley. We have had a major electrical system disturbance, and lost generation capacity. We are in the process of restoring service as safely and quickly as possible. We will post additional details as they become available.
