A man is dead and his daughter is in critical condition after their vehicle struck a pole in Mesa Thursday night.
The incident happened near Higley Road and Main Street around 6 p.m.
Officials say the driver, 36-year-old Kent Lyons, was driving at a high rate of speed when he struck a curb, causing the car to lose control and hit a pole on the northeast corner of the intersection.
The front driver's side of the vehicle hit the pole and Lyons was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lyons' 4-year-old daughter was also in the car at the time of the crash. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition and is being treated for internal bleeding.
Officials have not said what caused the crash to occur.
