A Mesa woman is accused of killing two people and she didn't even spend 24 hours in jail.

Thirty-two-year-old Cassie Sackrider admitted she was drunk and high and still, a judge let her walk.

Angel Salgado and Ranell Talbot, a single mother, were heading home from work during rush hour.

The couple stopped at a red light and that’s when police say Sackrider was speeding and plowed into the back of Angel's car.

The force launched Angel’s car 165 feet and through a gas station wall. Angel and Renee didn’t survive.

"She just hit him, bam, never even tried to stop," said Tito Salgado, Angel's son.

"I'm very proud of my father, he lived American Dream, he came out here [and] said 'I'm gonna start a business. I'm gonna help people.'"

Sackrider was badly hurt, but police say she was combative. She then came clean and admitted she was drunk, on pills and had done cocaine.

Police also found Sackrider had a series of prior violent crimes in Florida.

And yet, the judge let her out on her own recognizance after less than 24 hours behind bars.

The police report even says Sackrider is considered a flight risk.

"It kept us in a dream state. We're sitting there with our jaws dropped," said Tito of his reaction to the judge's decision.

Sackrider's grandmother tells ABC15 Sackrider is remorseful for what happened.

But Tito says Sackrider is accused of taking two lives and a judge let her carry on with hers.

"He felt sorry for this girl, that's irresponsible," he said.

At least until the next court date when Tito hopes justice will be served.
