MESA, AZ — Police say a home invasion suspect was shot by a victim Friday morning in Mesa.
Officers were called to a home near Alma School Road and University Drive just before 4:00 a.m. for reports of a home invasion.
When they arrived a male suspect was found with a gunshot wound.
Authorities with the Mesa Police Department say a woman was at home alone when the man made his way inside. She was able to fire a weapon at the intruder, striking him.
The suspect was taken to a hospital for injuries that are believed to be non-life threatening.
An early investigation indicates the suspect is a stranger to the victim. It's unclear if the victim or home were specifically targeted.
The investigation remains ongoing.
