Officials said deputies responded to reports of an armed suicidal subject who fired a weapon in the area. When deputies got on scene, 50-year-old Edward Rudhman confronted them and shots were fired by deputies.
Rudhman was shot and taken to an area hospital where he later died, MCSO officials said in an evening tweet.
Sgt. Enriquez said no deputies were injured in the shooting.
An investigation is ongoing.
