MESA, AZ — Maricopa County Sheriff’s officials say a wheelchair-bound pedestrian was hit and killed by a truck overnight.
Deputies were called to the scene near University Drive and 56th Street in Mesa around 8:25 p.m.
A full-size truck with a utility trailer reportedly struck a person in a wheelchair while they were crossing University in a crosswalk.
Witnesses say the truck had a green light at the time. The driver said he did not see the person crossing the intersection.
The victim was taken to the hospital and later died from injuries.
It’s unknown whether the driver was speeding or impaired at the time of the crash.
