A 24-year-old man is in custody after leading Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies on a short pursuit Saturday afternoon, officials said.
MCSO deputies said that just before 3 p.m., the Sheriff's office was called to the Saguaro Lake Marina to check out reports of a vehicle hitting a structure.
Officials said that after the male driver hit the structure, instead of sticking around, he drove away.
Deputies caught up with the driver and tried to stop the vehicle. The man took off and a short pursuit ensued, deputies said.
Officials said the driver did not pull over, but instead drove his truck into the lower part of the Salt River. When deputies spotted the man, he got out of his truck and tried to swim away.
An MCSO sergeant jumped into the river and took the man into custody without incident.

Deputies tell ABC15 the man had to be intubated at the hospital because he was being combative with the staff. He is not being identified at this time.
