Mesa police arrest father on DUI charge with baby in the car

MESA, AZ — A Valley father was arrested on a DUI charge after driving under the influence with his infant son in the vehicle on Saturday evening.

According to documents from Mesa police, 25-year-old Todd Spottedbear was seen swerving and nearly causing a crash near Dobson Road and Southern Avenue.

Officers stopped his vehicle and found there was a used bottle of 99 Bananas alcohol and an open bottle of Jose Cuervo inside the car.

Also inside the car was Spottedbear's son who is under a year old. He was sitting unsecured in a car seat on the back seat.

A breath test found that Spottedbear's blood-alcohol level was .226.

He admitted to drinking five bottles of 99 Bananas, had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol.

He was arrested on charges of aggravated DUI, child abuse and endangerment.
