Mesa police are conducting a homicide investigation after receiving word of a stabbing near a nail salon Friday night.
Officers responded to the call near Ellsworth and Baseline roads around 7:30 p.m. on reports of a stabbing.
When officers got on scene, they discovered a woman dead inside a nail salon, police say.
Police identified the victim on Monday as 30-year-old Lindsey Eastridge.
Eastridge was a customer at the salon.
According to Mesa police, the attack happened inside the salon near the front door. Authorities believe there is some sort of connection between the suspect and victim, although to what extent remains unclear.
"Based on some of the information we have surrounding this, we don't believe it was a random event," said Mesa Police Det. Steve Berry.
On Monday, a customer stopped by the salon to check on the employees. She wonders how someone can commit such a heinous crime, especially in such a public place.
"He's some kind of a nut," said customer Kathy Frey. "What else are you going to call him? Other than a murderer."
A GoFundMe page has been created to help support the Eastridge family during this difficult time.
