Mitt Romney headlines McCain re-election rally

Posted

Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney headlined a re-election campaign rally for Arizona Sen. John McCain at a Mesa high school.

Saturday afternoon's 3 o'clock rally at Dobson High School brought together the Republican Party's 2012 and 2008 nominees as McCain works to defeat GOP challengers as he seeks a sixth term. Romney lost to President Barack Obama in 2012 and McCain lost four years earlier.

McCain is battling a primary challenge from a tea party-backed state senator, Kelli Ward of Lake Havasu City. Political newcomer Alex Meluskey and several other Republicans also have filed papers seeking McCain's seat.

If McCain wins the primary, he'll face Democratic Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick in November's general election.
