Non-verbal child found alone in Mesa now in DCS custody, police say

MESA, AZ — Mesa police say a young child found alone Sunday morning has been placed into DCS custody.

Police say the boy was found around 3:30 a.m. at Central on Broadway Apartments, located near Broadway and Dobson roads.

The child, believed to be about 2 years old and non-verbal, was wearing a black Mickey Mouse shirt and dark shorts.

Officials said around 9 a.m. the child's mother was located but no further information was given.

The investigation is ongoing and the child has been put in DCS custody during the investigation.
