Mesa fire officials say a motorcyclist was killed in a crash late Tuesday morning.
Emergency crews arrived on scene near Country Club Drive and Southern Avenue in Mesa after 11 a.m. where a motorcycle and vehicle crashed.
"I heard him hit the brakes and it skipped—you could hear the bike skip like a rock on water," witness Gilbert Lugo said.
The motorcyclist was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene.
Mesa police said the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Country Club Drive at a high rate of speed when it collided with a vehicle at Southern.
A Department of Public Safety trooper attempted to stop the motorcyclist at Country Club but lost sight of the motorcyclist shortly before the crash.
According to a Mesa police spokesperson, the victim may have had a suspended license.
DPS said the trooper did not pursue the vehicle and notified Mesa police.
The intersection was closed but has since reopened.
