Rockin' R Ranch in Mesa to close after 35 years

Posted

If these walls could talk, they’d reveal decades of history at the Rockin’ R Ranch in Mesa.

After 35 years, this Valley staple and all of its dinner shows are coming to an end.

“We’ve created a family show right here from the beginning because all of our kids performed,” explains Jim Robson, owner of the Rockin’ R, which is located near Baseline and Power roads.

As Jim and his wife, Mary Ellen, explain, it really was a family affair.

The ranch was built on land that has been in the Robson Family for generations.

“People say, ‘I came to my first field trip here,’ and now they have children of their own, explains Mary Ellen Robson. “I’m not that old, am I?!”

For their daughter, Chelsea, who literally grew up on the ranch, the move is bittersweet.

“I would say it’s like changing a chapter, but really, it’s like changing a whole volume,” Chelsea explains. “There is just so much that has happened!”

The final two shows at the Rockin’ R Ranch are this Friday and Saturday.

Tickets are still on sale. For more information, head here

There is also an auction taking place Monday at 12 p.m., hosted by Blue Leaf Estate Auctions.
