MESA, AZ — A man is dead after a shooting involving Tempe police in a Mesa neighborhood Thursday.
At about 2:20 p.m., Mesa police were called to assist Tempe police over a person who was wanted for alleged domestic violence and was driving in a vehicle.
The initial incident occurred in Tempe but the driver traveled to Mesa where he stopped in a neighborhood and exited the vehicle.
At that point, officials say officers attempted to take the man, later identified as Breen Reiss, into custody and he fired a gun at them. Officers returned fire, hitting Reiss.
Reiss was pronounced dead. During the investigation, Mesa police say a handgun was located next to him.
No officers were injured.
According to Tempe Police Department, the three involved officers are on administrative leave, per their policy.
