PHOENIX — Today only (November 8), Maricopa County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) will be waiving adoption fees for all animals (except for puppies) at their West and East shelters. The Bissell Pet Foundation is partnering with MCACC to help clear the shelters.
From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., MCACC will waive adoption fees for all pets, and still include vaccinations, licenses, microchipping and alteration surgery.
According to Jose Santiago, the Public Information Officer for MCACC, there are no empty kennels at the West shelter.
"We have had a small handful open at our East shelter but with more than 800 animals in our care, and more coming in every day, we have reached crisis levels," Santiago said in a statement to ABC15. "The shelter has even turned to housing some of our animals at an off-site location. We are hoping that an event like this will clear up the life-saving space we desperately need at the moment."
