MESA, AZ — Mesa police say an arrest has been made after a deadly shooting at a motel Monday afternoon.
Police say they were called to the Windemere Motel near Main Street and Recker Road around 3 p.m. for a report of a shooting. A man and woman were found with gunshot wounds at the scene. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman suffered life-threatening injuries.
The woman told officials a man named “Tony” shot them because he thought they stole his drugs.
Police say 44-year-old Anthony Wayne Gushee was identified as the suspect. Officials also located evidence of drugs at the scene.
Gushee was located before midnight and taken into custody without incident.
He reportedly has a history of drug-related offenses, but did not speak about the incident to police.
He has been charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of aggravated assault.
