The Tempe Police Department says Mesa City Councilman Ryan Winkle had a .220 BAC level at the time of his DUI arrest earlier in May.

Police say Winkle was spotted near Mill Avenue and Baseline Road weaving in the roadway by an officer before being pulled over.

According to the police report, Winkle was also seen stopping abruptly at a red light, where people were crossing at the time.

Winkle exhibited signs and symptoms consistent with impairment during the traffic stop, according to police.
Blood samples were submitted as part of the East Valley DUI Task Force, and results were released Tuesday that showed Winkle had a .220 BAC level.

Winkle was given a criminal citation for DUI during the arrest. Police say the city prosecutor’s office will be following up on the possibility of additional charges.

Winkle announced after the arrest that he would be taking a leave of absence to seek counseling but would not step down from his position.
