It only takes a matter of minutes--less than nine in fact--for a healthy looking-Christmas tree to become entirely engulfed in flames filling the home with smoke.
Several Valley fire departments held a media demonstration on Tuesday to show the very real concerns that homeowners need to be aware of if they have a live tree up for the holidays.
Yes, they want you to enjoy the holiday and be spirited, but to also be responsible and safe.
"Sometimes people need to see something to basically have it stick in their minds so the picture of that dry Christmas going up in flames--how dangerous they are--how dangerous it is not to keep your Christmas tree water--that's kinda the point today. Get the visual out there. Put it in someone's mind," said Mike Connor, deputy chief with Gilbert Fire Department.
