MESA — A wrong-way driver crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of Southern Avenue and Stewart in Mesa around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
In dramatic video captured by ABC15 viewer Greg Heinrich, a black SUV can be seen driving eastbound in the westbound lane of Southern Avenue for several seconds before it the driver crashes into a vehicle stopped at a red light.
"It appears that an elderly driver became confused while driving and collided with the front end of a vehicle stopped at a red light," Mesa Police Det. Jason Blomberg said in a statement to ABC15.
According to Blomberg, there were no serious injuries as a result of the crash.
The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was issued a civil citation, according to Blomberg, and will be referred to Motor Vehicle Services (MVD) to re-evaluate his driver's license.
