The widow of a man shot and killed by a now-former Mesa Police officer has created a video challenge that mirrors her husband's death.
Daniel Shaver was shot and killed by police on Jan. 18, 2016 after hotel guests reported that he was pointing a rifle over the pool area. He was later found to be unarmed.
The "Daniel Shaver Challenge" reportedly follows transcripts from body camera footage. Participants are supposed to record themselves and see if they can obey commands given by police to see if they can survive.
Laney Sweet, Shaver's wife, says she hopes people will be able to "reenact" what happened that night in Mesa since released video does not show the exact moment her husband was shot. The challenge is meant to raise awareness of these situations.
Dozens of people have already taken part in the challenge and many say they would not have survived the ordeal by following the orders.
The officer who shot Shaver has since been fired from the Mesa Police force and charged with second-degree murder.
