QUEEN CREEK, AZ — Officials say 23 students and eight employees at a school in Queen Creek have tested positive for COVID-19.
In response to the outbreak, officials at Canyon State Academy said Wednesday that they have initiated contact tracing protocols and people who have come in contact with infected individuals have been isolated.
School officials said in a statement, "Canyon State Academy (CSA) has diligently followed best practices, CDC recommendations and successfully avoided a COVID-19 exposure since the pandemic began in March. These efforts included enhanced hygiene, sanitation and social distancing practices, use of masks, limiting community interaction as well as comprehensive site-based screening and admission practices."
"Despite these efforts, last week, we had 23 students and 8 staff test COVID-19 positive," the statement said.
According to their website, Canyon State Academy is a private school serving boys between the ages of 11-17 with a history of delinquent behaviors, dependent/neglectful backgrounds, mild mental and emotional health issues, and special education.
