QUEEN CREEK, AZ — Queen Creek officials say they are removing sand that was used to fill a skate park to discourage use of the park.
Officials say the sand was removed from the Mansel Carter Oasis skate park "due to public feedback."
After Gov. Ducey issued the executive order that closed park amenities that don't allow for proper social distancing, the Town of Queen Creek fenced in the skate park. Town staff said visitors continuously showed up, and in large groups.
That's when they decided to fill the park with sand from the park's volleyball courts.
Other states around the country have been doing this amid the coronavirus pandemic to enforce social distancing.
The skate park will stay closed under the Governor's executive order.
