SPRING VALLEY, AZ — Some strong storms rolled through Yavapai County early Thursday morning. Bob Deland, who lives in Spring Valley, was awoken around 4:00 a.m. and described what he heard.
"This was like a freight train, it wasn't like a normal wind that I normally hear around here," Deland said.
The strong moving storm destroyed Deland's home, tearing off the roof, lifting up a carport and leveling it, even scattering debris throughout the neighborhood.
"I've been in areas where tornadoes are but nothing like this, I mean I was sitting inside and the house was shaking," said Deland.
The National Weather Service was called out to inspect the damage looking for signs of a microburst or tornado. Determining straight line winds around 75 mph was likely what caused the damage.
Deland says he'll stay with some nearby family while his home gets repaired. No injuries were reported as a result of the storm.
