Several suspects connected to robberies in Tempe were involved in a rollover crash, moments after two attempted robberies took place in the area.
Tempe police say the crash happened around 5 a.m. Saturday in the area of Mill Avenue and Apache Boulevard.
According to police, they got a call just before 5 a.m. for reports of a break-in at the Jimmy John's near Baseline Road and Rural Road. Several businesses have been broken into recently in the surrounding area, so officers began to monitor nearby businesses that were closed.
Within minutes of responding to the Jimmy John's break-in, an officer observed someone else using a sledgehammer to try to break into the Fry's store near Mill and Southern avenues. The suspect trying to break into the Fry's attempted to flee the scene and was involved in a crash with two other vehicles blocks away at Mill and Apache.
The crash caused one of the vehicles to roll over causing one victim to be pinned under their vehicle. That person has been taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.
The suspect's vehicle had three occupants at the time of the crash. Two of them have been taken into custody. The third was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
The driver of the third vehicle didn't suffer serious injuries.
Police have not said how many robberies these suspects could potentially be responsible for.
Tempe police continue to investigate the robberies and the crash.
