TEMPE, AZ — Smoke could be seen for miles from a 2nd alarm fire burning near Tempe Town Lake Wednesday afternoon.
The fire started around 2:30 p.m. near the Loop 202 Red Mountain and Scottsdale Road
Firefighters say initial reports indicate the fire was caused by roofing material that ignited at a construction site on the north side of the lake.
Crews were able to contain the flames to the building under construction and prevent it from spreading to an attached parking garage.

Firefighters said workers were welding bracers to the structure's metal decking, which caused the foam roof to ignite and spread to other flammable materials stored on the roof.
There are no reported injuries to firefighters or construction worker at this time, according to Deputy Chief Andrea Glass.
