Mesa officers involved in deadly shooting in Tempe

TEMPE, AZ — Mesa police officers were involved in a deadly shooting Friday morning in Tempe.

Police say the incident started in the parking lot of Panda Express off of Dobson Road in Mesa. Police attempted to make contact with a man found slumped over the wheel of what they believed to be a stolen car when the suspect drove off.

An air unit tracked the vehicle and police located the suspect in a parking lot near University east of Loop 101. When officers again tried to make contact with the subject, an officer-involved shooting occurred.

Police say the suspect was taken to the hospital but did not survive.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

The suspect's identity hasn't been released.
