New app rewards students for staying off phones

Posted

It's not an uncommon belief that college students are addicted to their phones. Now, an app has been created to help lessen that addiction.

Pocket Points is an app that rewards students for staying off of their phones during class. A lengthy list of school locations shows how many are already participating in this app's motivation to keep students' focus away from social media and toward learning.

This app allows students to open the application, lock their phones and begin receiving points for every minute their phone remains locked. Those points, can then be redeemed for special discounts and offers from local businesses.

The slogan "Learn some, earn some" is motivating students across the country. Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, University of Arizona and a number of Arizona's community colleges are already participating schools.

The "pocket points" can be redeemed at local businesses like Jimmy John's, Starbucks, Diary Queen, Buffalo Wild Wings and more.
