TEMPE, AZ — Tempe police say they are investigating an assault between multiple people at Arizona Mills Mall Saturday afternoon.

Officials say they received calls around 5 p.m. regarding a person down. When police arrived, they found a man with a laceration to his head.

Officials say the incident stemmed from shoplifting at a stand-alone kiosk. The kiosk employee attempted to get the stolen property back and that is when the physical altercation happened, according to police.

Police say the employee got the injury after he was knocked down and hit his head on a piece of furniture. After receiving some medical care, he took himself to the hospital.

Police believe there are three outstanding suspects who left the mall on foot. They are described as two females and one male, possibly in their late teens to early 20s.

This incident remains under investigation.
