TEMPE, AZ — Two kids were struck while skateboarding in Tempe on Monday evening.
According to Tempe police, a 13-year-old boy and 12-year-old girl were struck by a vehicle while in the bike lane of Southern Avenue approaching College around 6 p.m.
Police said one was on a skateboard, while the other was on an electric skateboard.
“It was not a sight that I want to see ever again," said Shasca Stephenson who called 911.
"She was conscious too, but she just kept saying, 'I want to see my mom, I want to see my mom,'" said Stephenson about the 12-year-old girl.
“I heard her say, 'am I bleeding?' and they said, 'no you look beautiful,'” Stephenson said.
Authorities say both were taken to Cardon Children's Medical Center to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the vehicle remained on scene, and impairment is not suspected to be a contributing factor, according to officers.
