An 18-year-old is behind bars Thursday afternoon after he attempted to burglarize a Tempe home.
Police say Xavier Ayala is suspected of climbing over a fence to a home near Kyrene and Guadalupe roads.
The homeowner saw the man trying to open the window and called 911. The suspect then fled the scene.
Police checked a canal nearby where Ayala was found. The victim confirmed Ayala as the attempted burglar.
Ayala was arrested for third-degree burglary and was taken to Tempe Jail.
