Police are asking for help in tracking down a suspect wanted for groping a woman in an apartment complex parking lot on Monday.

According to a Tempe police spokesperson, a woman in her 20s was walking through a parking lot near Elliot Road and Priest Drive around 2:20 p.m. when she was approached by a man.

The suspect made a comment to the woman and then touched her in an unwanted fashion, police said.

The victim screamed and the suspect ran away. Responding police officers were unable to track him down.

Investigators say additional resources have been moved into the area. Detectives say the suspect does not match any previous incidents reported in Tempe, meaning the incident is not connected to two people sought in groping and exposure incidents at Arizona State University last week.

Authorities are checking with other agencies to see if the suspect is a known offender in another area.

The suspect is described as a black man in his 30s or 40s, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and 210 pounds. Witnesses described him as heavy-set with black hair styled into short dreadlocks and having brown eyes. He was last seen wearing loose-fitting, long cargo shorts and a green shirt.

Anyone with information about the suspect's location is asked to call the Tempe Police Department at 480-350-8311.
