Avondale police say a man has been taken into custody after his neighbor was shot and killed Sunday morning.
According to police, officers responded to a home near El Mirage and Lower Buckeye roads for a report of shots fired around 5 a.m.
As officers arrived, they located 55-year-old Ramon Oseguera in a garage suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
According to police documents, Oseguera was outside preparing to drive out of state to attend a funeral when the shooting occurred.
Through further investigation, police say they learned that Oseguera had a disagreement with his neighbor, 42-year-old Ruben Alvarez, who was identified as the suspect in the case.
The victim's family and neighbors reportedly heard the argument and gunfire, and saw Alvarez's vehicle leaving the area, according to police documents.
A search warrant conducted on Alvarez's home turned up a gun, ammunition, empty handgun holsters and paperwork that led police to a relative's address in Phoenix. Alvarez was located and arrested during a traffic stop near 19th and Southern avenues after he was seen by unmarked officers leaving the home with his girlfriend.
Alvarez was booked into jail on a second-degree murder charge.
