AVONDALE, AZ — Black smoke could be seen for miles from a brush fire burning near Interstate 10 and Dysart Road Saturday night.
Interstate 10 westbound at Avondale was briefly closed as a result of the fire, but reopened before 6 p.m., according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
An Avondale Fire Department spokesman said part of McDowell Road between Avondale and Dysart was also closed while crews fought the fire.
Firefighters say the fire sparked around 4 p.m. and quickly spread through brush in the Agua Fria River bottom.
No structures were threatened and the fire was contained to the river bottom.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
