AVONDALE, AZ — Maricopa County Sheriff's Office deputies are searching for a person who went missing after a crash in the west Valley.
Officials say the two-car crash happened Wednesday at around 4:23 p.m. near El Mirage Road and Southern Avenue.
Police say a pickup truck was approaching the intersection with Southern Avenue while driving north on El Mirage Road when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign. The pickup truck then collided with a car driving east on Southern Avenue.
Inside the car was a mother and her two children. The children, ages 10 and 12-years-old died as a result of the crash, and the mother was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, authorities say.
One child was ejected and thrown into "thick desert vegetation." Following a thorough search using an excavator, the second child was also located.
The driver of the pickup truck was also transported without injuries for further evaluation, police say.
Officials say impairment does not appear to be a are factor at this time.
The investigation is ongoing.
