The Avondale Police Department responded to Canyon Breeze Elementary School Friday afternoon after reports of a pepper spray incident.
According to police, a 7th grade student brought a small key chain size bottle of pepper spray to school when a friend sprayed a small amount on the floor of the classroom.
Avondale fire crews treated 23 students and one teacher that were in the room at the time of the incident.
Police say the spray did not come into direct contact with anyone, but the fumes that were exposed in the classroom still require medical attention as it can affect a person’s respiratory system.
The Avondale Fire Department reported six people were transported to the hospital for precautionary reasons.
No charges are being filed at this time by law enforcement and the school is looking into possible disciplinary actions.
