BUCKEYE, AZ — Authorities have released the video from a hostage situation at the Lewis Prison last month.

The Arizona Department of Corrections said Timothy Monk held a prison librarian hostage for several hours inside the law library at the prison off of SR 85 in the southwest Valley on December 26.

Corrections officials said Monk used a prison-made blade-type weapon to use the librarian in an attempt to escape.

The video shows the response from the prison, including the arrival of a tactical team that negotiated with Monk and his apprehension after the use of a diversionary device.

No injuries were reported during the situation.

DOC officials say Monk is currently serving 97 years in prison. He came to Arizona Department of Corrections after being sentenced in Maricopa County in 1988 for armed robbery, sex assault and kidnapping. In 2006, he was convicted of aggravated assault, kidnapping, promoting prison contraband and sex assault while incarcerated in Tucson.
