TONOPAH, AZ — The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is investigating a deputy-involved shooting in Tonopah, an area west of Phoenix.

Around 12:30 p.m, deputies were sent to a home near 348th Avenue and Buckeye Road for a domestic violence call.

Officials say when deputies arrived at the scene, they were shot at from someone inside the home. Deputies exchanged gunfire and the suspect retreated and barricaded himself further inside the home.

In a tweet, an MCSO spokesperson said no deputies were injured.

After an hours-long standoff, MCSO officials said the armed suspect was taken into custody without incident. The suspect has not yet been identified.

"The threat to law enforcement continues to challenge our deputies and threaten their safety," said Sheriff Penzone. "Today's incident is another example of the dangers they face every day."

Additional information was not immediately available.

Multiple agencies, including MCSO's SWAT team, Buckeye police, Goodyear police, and the Department of Public Safety are on scene, according to MCSO's tweet.

"I am thankful our deputies were physically unharmed and the suspect was eventually extracted without any loss of life," Sheriff Penzone said. "Our investigation will be thorough and we will deliver further detail at its conclusion."
