BUCKEYE, AZ — Police say a suspect is dead after an officer-involved shooting in the Acacia Crossing neighborhood in Buckeye.
According to Buckeye police officials, police dispatchers received a call around 5:30 p.m. that a woman was fighting with her boyfriend at a residence near Watson and Yuma roads.
While officers were responding to the scene, dispatchers heard what was believed to be a gunshot. Officers arrived on scene and were able to safely get the girlfriend out of the home. Another woman and two children were also reportedly in the home with the suspect. Police eventually got the suspect on the phone and evacuated the other woman and two kids still inside.
The suspect then came out of the house and opened fire at several officers, who returned fire. A SWAT team moved in on the scene and found the suspect lying in the driveway of the home unresponsive, where he was later pronounced dead. Several weapons were also found at the scene, including three semiautomatic handguns and one high-powered semi-automatic rifle.
Police estimate the suspect, later identified as 34-year-old Antonio A. Ramos, fired more than two dozen rounds at officers, many of the bullets striking the home across the street. Fortunately, no one was inside the home at the time.
Buckeye police said no officers were injured in the incident.
