GLENDALE, AZ — Police say an Apollo High School student was hit by a car on the way to school Tuesday morning.

Glendale police say the crash happened near 47th and Northern avenues after 7 a.m.

The student, identified as a 17-year-old girl, was crossing Northern Avenue in a crosswalk when a vehicle going west struck her.

Police said westbound traffic on Northern had a green light at the time of the crash, and speed, impairment and distracted driving did not appear to be factors in the collision.

The vehicle stayed on scene and no charges will be filed, according to a police spokesman.

Police say the girl has serious injuries but her condition had stabilized at the hospital.

The intersection of 47th and Northern avenues was shut down for several hours for the investigation.
