Armed shoplifter arrested at Arrowhead Mall

An accused shoplifter is behind bars after trying to escape inside Arrowhead Mall Wednesday afternoon.

According to Glendale police, 28-year-old Lorenzo Perez Jr. was caught red-handed stealing merchandise from a JC Penney's store.

When officers tried to take Perez into custody, he pulled out a gun, pointed it at an officer and punched a female officer in the face.

Police say the suspect then picked up his young child and tossed his gun over the railing of the 2nd level of the mall.

The gun landed on the 1st level of the mall near a large group of people. Officers say no one was injured.

After throwing the gun, Perez tried to flee with the child. Police say he was taken into custody and arrested by Glendale police.

Authorities say he swiped $67 worth of merchandise.

He is facing several felony charges including robbery, aggravated assault and endangerment.
