Authorities say officers were called to investigate a reported carjacking in the area. The victim told police he was robbed at gunpoint in front of his house by a man and woman who demanded his personal belongings and his white truck. When the suspects took off, the victim said he called 9-1-1 for help.
When officers arrived on scene, they saw what looked like the victim's truck near 83rd and Glendale avenues. They started following the truck at which point the suspects inside began to shoot at the officers' patrol cars.
The suspects continued to drive erratically until they hit two cars with their truck. One of the vehicles that was crashed into by the truck also was struck by a fired projectile causing minor injuries to an occupant from broken glass.
The truck sped off and the suspects continued to fire shots at the pursuing officers.
Police say when the suspects reached 43rd Avenue and Camelback Road, the two suspects jumped out of the truck and fled on foot. Officers chased down the suspects and were able to take both into custody. The male suspect tried to resist officers and received minor injuries from the incident. The man received medical treatment and has since been released back into police custody.
Cliff Castle Chopper video showed the suspect in custody and surrounded by officers. Aerial footage showed at least a dozen police vehicles stationed around the area, including outside a Home Depot store.
Officers located one abandoned firearm on the roadway of Grand Avenue while it was shut down for the investigation.
The 18-year-old male and female suspects are not being identified at this time.
Authorities say no officers were hurt.
