GLENDALE — A 21-year-old man died after being shot by a Glendale police officer Thursday evening near 53rd and Maryland avenues.
Police say the incident began as a crash around 5 p.m. involving a vehicle the man was driving and another vehicle with an adult and two children. No injuries were reported as a result of that crash.
The man, identified as 21-year-old Anthony Rios, Jr., ran away from the scene and went into an alley nearby, hiding in bushes.
An officer was searching for the man and heard multiple gunshots fired at him, officials say. The officer then returned fire, striking the man.
The man was pronounced dead, according to officials.
No officers were injured in this incident.
