The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is searching for an inmate who walked away from his work assignment in Glendale Thursday morning.

Around 11:30 a.m. MCSO deputies responded to the area of 59th and Olive avenues after learning that inmate Andrew Johnson left the area.

An MCSO spokesman says they're working with local law enforcement agencies to locate him.

The 31-year-old Johnson was booked into jail last November on one count each of shoplifting and dangerous drug possession and use.

Sheriff's officials say inmates on work detail are classified as low risk and have non-violent charges.

No further information about Johnson or the incident has been provided.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to call MCSO at 602-876-1011.
