GLENDALE, AZ — A man has died after being hit by a train in Glendale overnight.

Glendale police say the incident occurred near 67th and Northern avenues.

In an evening update, police said that the train was traveling about 18 mph when the conductor and engineer spotted something lying across the tracks. The object wasn't moving, and was initially believed to be trash. Police say as the train got closer, the conductor and engineer were able to see that the object was actually a person. The crew sounded the horn several times and activated the emergency brakes, but the train was unable to stop in time.

Video from the scene showed a BNSF train stopped with police tape around it.

The man, identified as 31-year-old Anthony Lee Delgadillo, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are still investigating to determine why Delgadillo was on the railroad tracks.
