An 18-year-old unlicensed driver has been booked into jail on multiple charges after hitting and killing a man who was crossing the street in Glendale, police said.

Police allege Jose Vazquez Flores, of Phoenix, went to pass another vehicle while traveling westbound on Glendale Avenue Thursday night.

As Flores was completing the pass and returning to his original lane, he struck a man who was crossing the street mid-block at 65th Avenue.

That man, identified as 53-year-old Jesse Tucker of Glendale, died at the hospital, police said.

Investigators believe Flores was traveling at least 20 mph over the speed limit.

He was booked into jail on charges of manslaughter, accidental death while driving and never been issued a license, reckless driving, and criminal speed, police said.
