A Glendale woman says her daughter is lucky to be alive after a motorist lost control of his vehicle and crashed into her home Monday.
The driver told police he looked away from the road to try and find his phone when he swerved and found himself crashing through Cynthia Martinez's home near 59th Avenue and Indian School Road.
Police said he drove almost completely through the house, through the living room, dining room and kitchen.
The impact sparked a fire in the attic, which was extinguished, and the home was declared unstable.
Martinez was not injured, but does not have a place to live.
Martinez said if her daughter were on the couch, she "would be dead." She was in their home when the truck crashed through it. Luckily though, the younger woman was not in the path of the truck.
Martinez is heartbroken over the severe damage to her home of 25 years. She's waiting to hear from the insurance adjusters to know if she'll ever be able to move back into it.
Her co-workers set up a GoFundMe account to help with expenses.
The American Red Cross did assist with any needs they could provide.
As of this writing, the GoFundMe page had raised just over $1,700 with a goal of $10,000.
The motorist was cited for driving with a suspended license and driving on the wrong side of the road.
