Two boys are being credited with saving their neighbor from a house fire in October.
Fourteen-year-old Malikah Barfield and 12-year-old Bryson Burris received the lifesaving award in Glendale Tuesday morning.
Firefighters say the fire started October 12 at an apartment complex near 75th and Glendale avenues.
Officials say Barfield and Burris heard crying from their neighbor's apartment and noticed smoke. Without hesitation, the boys went into the smoke-filled home, found a fire extinguisher and started to put out the fire. The boys then went back inside with a Glendale Police officer and rescued their neighbor who was stuck inside.
Authorities say the boys suffered smoke inhalation and minor injuries from broken glass retrieving the fire extinguisher.
Their neighbor was transported to the hospital and has fully recovered.
