A 67-year-old Goodyear man accused of fatally stabbing his wife and adult son in 2013 is now pleading guilty to two counts of first-degree murder.
Maricopa County Superior Court officials say Eugene Maraventano entered the change of plea Tuesday morning. He pleaded not guilty during his arraignment in September.
Authorities say Maraventano killed his 63-year-old-wife and 27-year-old son with a 14-inch knife in April 2013.
He told investigators he feared he gave his wife HIV through prostitutes he used to frequent and was worried about what his jobless son would make of his life.
A court twice determined Maraventano was not competent to stand trial and ordered him to undergo treatment.
